PROJECT ComingWorldRememberMe... Een project om even bij stil te staan.
A historic world project realized by AQUALIFE, in memory of the deceased victims of WW1.
"THE FUTURE DEPENDS ON FORGOTTEN MEMORIES"
Early March we received a special request from Coming World Remember Me by Jan Moeyaert and Koen van Mechelen for the construction of a glass container. We had to swallow hard when reading the enclosed information brochure. The glass container was to serve as an art object to house 600,000 dog tags that are linked to a clay statue. In the First World War, every soldier who was sent to the front received 2 dog tags (identification of the soldier). In total, 600,000 victims fell in Belgium, including various nationalities.
The amount of statues gives you an impression of the atrocities that took place in WW1, in which so many victims lost their lives.
We were commissioned to build a glass box of 275x65x120 cm that is finished with a CorTen steel frame to give the project a rustic look. We also made a plinth of 70 cm high from corten steel.
